Barclays Premier League Week 7 Predictions

After changing the format at which I grade my predictions, I'm now coming off a pretty good record from Week 6. I even had 2 exact score predictions! But this week I'm looking to do even better than 5-3-2. My goal is at least 6-2-2. Hopefully my bet of the week will be a win this week as well, since Chelsea ended up winning only 3-0 and my pick of over 3 was only a push. As usual, the bet of the week will be in bold, red font.

UPDATE: SUNDAY 8:40 PM EST

Week 7 Record: 4-6-0
Bet of the Week Record: 0-1-0
Season Record: 9-9-2
Season Bet of the Week Record: 0-1-1

Sunderland vs. Stoke City

Prediction: 1-1

Analysis: Sunderland ended up playing in the boring game of the week last week, ending with a 0-0 draw against Swansea City. It's a little hard to tell if Sunderland played better than they have been or Swansea is still falling apart after being the early surprise of the season. On the other hand, Stoke did exactly what I was expecting (literally) and came away with a 1-0 win against Newcastle last week. You won't see Stoke involved in too many high scoring match-ups this season so I'm going to go with a 1-1, having Sunderland squeak away with another much needed point.

Pick: Stoke pk, +1/2; -132

Final Outcome: 3-1. LOSS.

Leicester City vs. Burnley

Prediction: 1-0

Analysis: One of the shocks of last week for me, Leicester lost 0-2 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. I said last week that Leicester is the strongest looking squad to be promoted this year, and while they still are, they too will probably end up fighting to stay up this season after what I saw last week. Maybe I should be giving Crystal Palace more credit for their win and their place in the table but I'm not ready to do so. I still believe Crystal Palace isn't that talented of a team and will be in the bottom five come season's end. Anyway, Leicester City will be looking for a big bounce back at home against a Burnley squad that still can't find any way to score. Only one goal through six games? It's not the way to start out after being promoted into the Premier League. I think Leicester does bounce back with a win here, but it won't be pretty.

Pick: Burnley under 1 goal; -150

Final Outcome: 2-2. LOSS.

Hull City vs. Crystal Palace

Prediction: 2-0

Analysis: Like I said in the previous game's analysis, I'm not ready to say Crystal Palace isn't a bad team. Hull is decent, and they at least put up a fight against my preseason pick to win the league, Manchester City. Hull will have a nice home field advantage in this game and I expect them to use it.

Pick: Hull City -1/2; +112

Final Outcome: 2-0. EXACT WIN.

Bet of the Week: Swansea ML; -118
Swansea City vs. Newcastle

Prediction: 3-0

Analysis: The tale of two struggling teams. Given, one has much deeper problems than the other. Obviously, I'm talking about Newcastle. I believe that Alan Pardew isn't the right man for the job anymore and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the next manager fired. Vegas seems to agree with me and I'd be putting my money on him being gone before the end of the month. This is a crucial game for Newcastle to win, since Swansea is on the downswing as of late. But do I think they win it? No, I don't. Not even a chance in my mind.

Bet of the Week: Swansea ML; -118

Final Outcome: 2-2. LOSS.

Liverpool vs. West Brom

Prediction: 2-2

Analysis: This is an interesting game for me. Liverpool is coming off two losses and a draw in their past three games and West Brom is coming off two wins in their last two games, including a dominating win at home against Burnley. I said previously that West Brom is REALLY bad, but you know what, they might actually be the favorite to win this game. Liverpool is THAT bad as of late and it looks like Suarez will be extremely hard to replace, just like Mike said in the Footballistically Speaking Podcast. I'm gonna stick with a draw though to play it safe.

Pick: West Brom +1, +1 1/2; -120

Final Outcome: 2-1. WIN.

Aston Villa vs. Manchester City

Prediction: 0-3

Analysis: Well it looks like we've seen Aston Villa won't be able to compete with the top teams this season. A third tough game in a row for the Villains, and probably the worst time to play Manchester City. Man City looks like they're back on track after a nice 4-2 win against Hull. I expect Man City to win this game easily.

Pick: Man City ML; -217

Final Outcome: 0-2. WIN.

Manchester United vs. Everton

Prediction: 1-2

Analysis: Ah, this should be a fun game to watch. Everton coming off a draw against a Liverpool team they could've beat and Manchester United coming off a much needed win against West Ham. Playing at Old Trafford, it's hard to bet against Man U here, but that's exactly what I'm doing. Everton almost always shows up against the top teams and even though Man U may not be a top team this season or last, the name still suggests they are. Everton will get a win they deserve this week.

Pick: Everton ML; +420 (The odds are too good to pass up with +420, but this would've been the Bet of the Week if I went with Everton +1; -124)

Final Outcome: 2-1. LOSS.

Chelsea vs. Arsenal

Prediction: 3-1

Analysis: The fun-filled day continues! Maybe the best matchup so far this season, and all of the world will be watching. Chelsea went back to their winning ways with a 3-0 win against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal is coming off a disappointing draw against their North London rivals. As much as I'd like to see Arsenal win this game, I don't think it's happening. The game will be fun to watch but there's really only one outcome we should be expecting.

Pick: Chelsea ML; -154

Final Outcome: 2-0. WIN.

Tottenham vs. Southampton

Prediction: 1-1

Analysis: Too bad this game is on at the same time as the Chelsea/Arsenal game because I'd definitely want to watch this one too. Tottenham probably isn't happy with their table position while Southampton absolutely is. Vegas is giving the slight edge to Tottenham but I'm not. Southampton looks too powerful this season and Tottenham isn't in form to keep up. But you know what, I'm going to stick with the draw since this game is at White Hart Lane. No way Spurs actually win this game though.

Pick: Southampton pk, +1/2; -101

Final Outcome: 1-0. LOSS.

West Ham United vs. Queens Park Rangers

Prediction: 1-2

Analysis: Saving the best for last! Okay, maybe it's only me that thinks that, but I'm so happy with the Sunday sports lineup. ManU/Everton at 7, Chelsea/Arsenal at 9, West Ham/QPR at 11, Falcons/Giants at 1! You know I'll be glued to the TV all morning and afternoon. But now, back to the preview for this game. QPR is coming off a tough loss to Southampton, where the defense is continuing to struggle. It's clearly time for a change, but Redknapp doesn't want to take Rio out of the starting XI. In my opinion, Onuoha HAS to start because he's clearly the best defender on the team and has strong leadership qualities. Sadly, it probably won't be happening for this game and once again we'll see the defense struggle. However, West Ham just lost to Man U, so there's hope to win this game for QPR fans. Lastly, the team seems to be stoked from getting to work with QPR's Tiger Cubs team. They have a fundrasing walk from Loftus Road to Upton Park before the game (obviously not the squad, but fans and supporters), and I think the team will be ready to play with the away fans roaring. I know I would be. Leroy Fer with the game winner here.

Pick: QPR +1/2; -105

Final Outcome: 2-0. LOSS.

Table Prediction After Week 7:

"Leroy Fer with the game winner here."
1) Chelsea - 19 points
2) Man City - 14 points
3) Southampton - 14 points
4) Swansea City - 13 points
5) Leicester City - 11 points
6) Arsenal - 10 points
7) Aston Villa - 10 points
8) Tottenham - 9 points
9) Hull City - 9 points
10) West Brom - 9 points
11) Stoke City - 9 points
12) Everton - 9 points
13) Man U - 8 points
14) Liverpool - 8 points
15) Crystal Palace - 8 points
16) West Ham - 7 points
17) QPR - 7 points
18) Sunderland - 6 points
19) Burnley - 3 points
20) Newcastle - 3 points
